April is Autism Awareness Month
Autism cannot be cured. Many folks with autism do not wish to be cured. The unique way their brain works is helpful to them and to society. The world needs autism.
Unfortunately, autism can be debilitating and diminsh the quality of life for many. Living independently and being self-determining is a natural human value. To help children move off the autismm spectrum to become their best selves, early intensive interentions are necessary.
For most children, 25-40 hours of one-on-one therapies per week beginning at the age of 3 can make the difference. ABA is not 100% effective with all children, but it helps most children. ABA provided for older children will take longer and the kids may not progress as far. Kids who begin at 2 will likely only need two years of ABA.
Autism is not curable, but it is treatable. Every child with ASD deserves this treatment.
